Jada Davis

What is your major?
Crop Sciences with a Crop Agribusiness concentration

Where are you from?
Homer, Illinois: a small town on the east edge of Champaign County. UIUC has always been home for me because I grew up so close!

Why did you pick the Department of Crop Sciences?
My family's ties to agriculture's crop side initially sparked my interest. But, knowing that I wanted to work alongside growers to advance their operations was the deciding point.

What is your favorite part of being a student in the Department of Crop Sciences?
The supportive community within the department. We're a small enough department that many professors know me by name but also big enough that many opportunities are available to us.

What do you do for fun outside academics?
I bleed orange and blue! Chances are you can find me in the crowd at any Illini home game. I also love playing sand volleyball, hanging out with my friends, and trying out all the small-town restaurants in the Champaign area.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?
plan to attend graduate school to get my master's degree. After which, I hope to work in the ag chemical industry, advising farmers on their plant protection management decisions.

What is one thing you want people to know about Crop Sciences, the College of ACES, or the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign?
The power of a land-grant school is so apparent within our department. People in the agriculture industry know what it means to have a degree from the University of Illinois, and it is something to be proud of!
